Key features
Why

  • Safety standards for battery packs are increasing all over the world
  • Be ahead of the competition by delivering systems that can protect itself
  • Detect fire or explosion issues weeks before it happens
How
  • Easy CAN BUS integration with BMS or EMS

What to measure

For EV or BESS Safety, there is a host of gases, from battery gases to air-conditioning gases. This section will focus on which sensors to use for Battery packs.

  • Carbon Monoxide (CO): This is a primary indicator of thermal runaway and high-temperature combustion. It is highly toxic and flammable, posing a direct threat to personnel and increasing the risk of a secondary explosion. But it is a very early indication of elevated temperatures of the cable insulation.

  • Carbon Dioxide CO2: Because it is produced early in the failure process and in high concentrations, CO2 is considered an excellent target gas for early warning. It is often used as a robust indicator that a cell's internal structure is beginning to break down.

  • Smoke and PM2.5: Particulate matter (PM2.5) and smoke indicate that the battery has reached Stage 3 of failure, where a cell breach or fire is imminent. These emissions are dominated by metallic particles and soot, which are highly toxic if inhaled.

  • Electrolyte Vapour: Detecting evaporated electrolyte provides the earliest possible warning, occurring during "soft venting" before thermal runaway begins. These vapours are typically flammable organic solvents (VOCs) that create a serious fire hazard when released

  • Pressure: IP rated Boxes needs an early warning system of pressure building up inside the box. For many EU standards this is getting compulsory.

The Magic Trio
We can all agree that preventing a fire before it ignites is far more effective than getting into a debate over which fire system to deploy to extinguish it, though that conversation is certainly worth having!

Make your battery ultra safe with two or three of these cutting-edge sensors, designed for early warning systems:

Sensor 1: ATRS 1031
This is your go-to primary smoke sensor, perfect for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and general battery rooms that have door access.

Sensor 2: ATRS 1021
A powerhouse in monitoring, it tracks CO, CO2, PM, and pressure levels for BESS, electric vehicles (EV), and enclosed battery boxes.

Sensor 3: ATRS 1050
Keep a close eye on safety with this sensor, which detects electrolyte leakage in BESS, EV, and enclosed battery boxes.
